Born June 22, 1958 in Royal Oak, Michigan, USA. At school he met Sam Raimi. He started his career in student films. He also performed with his father in amateur performances. In 1978, Campbell starred in the role of himself in the short film Raimi "In the Woods", the storyline of which, as well as many techniques later were used in the cycle about "Evil Dead", where he was already called Ash Williams. The actor's first success came in 1981, when Campbell starred as Ash Williams in Raimi's horror film Evil Dead. Campbell not only played a major role, but also took an active part in the making of the entire film, as a result of which he was listed as one of the film's producers. Subsequently, two more films from this series were released, "Evil Dead 2" and "Army of Darkness". Raimi gave Campbell roles in other films,
Campbell has also starred in a number of television series. In the series The Amazing Journeys of Hercules and Xena, Warrior Princess, he played the role of Autolycus for a long time. Campbell played the demon in the episode of The X-Files season 6, "The Tongue of Tenderness."
Voice over for video games includes the voice of protagonist Jake Logan in Tachyon: The Fringe and several games based on Evil Dead and Spider-Man; as well as "Cold Blooded", an unrealized project from the studio 7th Level, Inc., which left the video game market in 1997.
Currently starring in the American spy television series "Burn Notice" as former operative Sam Ax, who dedicated the rest of his life to alcohol and women.
