Born May 14, 1955 - American film director and producer.
Tapert began directing while attending Michigan State University. He studied economics and went to film courses with Ivan Raimi and his brother Sam. Sam Raimi was a filmmaker in his home state of Michigan, later joined by brothers Ivan and Ted, and childhood friend Bruce Campbell. As a result, Sam Raimi and Tapert decided to make a film together.
The result of these efforts was the film A Day in the Valley, a story about a young man who went to college, but people turned away from him at every step. Towards the end of the film, the hero loses his mind, and begins to deal with everyone who hurt him. Despite the rather serious plot, the film has a lot of comic moments. This film brought Tapert and Sam Raimi their first success, and the idea came up to make a feature film.
And this plan was realized - a feature film called "Evil Dead", directed by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, was shot. The film was nominated for an award at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was a wild success, despite mixed reviews from critics. The film was so successful that a sequel was subsequently filmed - "Evil Dead 2" and "Army of Darkness." These films became a kind of start for the careers of Robert Tapert, Sam Raimi, and others.
Tapert has also directed many other films with Sam Raimi or Bruce Campbell. Tapert has directed films: Man of Darkness, The Gift, Timecop, The Grudge, Easy Wheels, 30 Days and Nights, and others.
In the 90s, Tapert took part in the creation of several TV series, such as The Amazing Journeys of Hercules, Xena - Warrior Princess, for which he invented such characters as Gabriel, Borias, Joxer.
