Born in Moscow on July 29, 1983.
In 2005 he graduated from the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS), the directing department of musical theater (workshop of R.Ya. Nemchinskaya).
In 2004 he trained at the Berlin Komiche Oper with director Peter Konwichny.
He began with performances at Helikon-Opera and the Rostov State Musical Theater in 2004, then made several high-profile performances at the Mariinsky Theater (Moscow, Cheryomushki by Dmitry Shostakovich, Enuf by Leos Janacek, Benvenuto Cellini by Hector Berlioz).
For "The Brothers Karamazov" to the music of Alexander Smelkov, he received in 2009 the "Golden Mask".
In Moscow, Barkhatov was noted for "Robbers" after Schiller at the Theater. Pushkin and the operetta "The Bat" at the Bolshoi Theater.
In 2010, he staged a festive show in honor of Russia Day on Red Square.
