Matthew Goode was born in Exeter, Devonshire, England - the youngest of five children (he has a brother, two half-brothers, and a sister, Sally Min, from his mother's other marriage) to a geologist and nurse. As a child, Matthew often appeared on stage in urban theater productions. He studied at the University of Birmingham in the drama department. He continued his education at the prestigious Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
