Born in 1948 and raised in the city of Ramat Gan, Israel. He went to college there, but after that he left for the United States and entered the Nofstra University in New York. In 1972 he received his Bachelor of Arts in Management.
In 1990, Avi Arad served as an executive producer of several animated series, and in 1992, the X-Men series on Fox Kids.
Together with co-owner Isaac Perlmatter of their toy company Toy Biz, they fought Carl Icahn and Ron Perelman for a controlling stake in Marvel Comics, which declared itself bankrupt in 1996. In the end, Arad and Perlmutter succeeded in this, and their company got the exclusive right to release toys in the form of Spider-Man and other superheroes. In fact, they saved the company from bankruptcy through licensing and film adaptation.
On July 4, 2004, Avi Arad received citizenship and became a full citizen of the United States.
In 2006, Avi Arad announced his resignation from all posts, including the CEO of Marvel Studios. He plans to form his own film company, Avi Arad Productions, but will continue to focus on Marvel Comics. The first film of his new company was "Bratz", which turned out to be a disaster.
In May 2007, he visited Moscow during the premiere of the movie Spider-Man 3: The Enemy in Reflection.
