Jon Voight was born on December 29, 1938 in the small American city of Yonkers, New York. He studied at the Washington Catholic University in the Faculty of Fine Arts. After graduating from university in 1960, he entered the New York school-studio "Neighborhood Playhouse" .
He has worked in musicals, theater and television. In 1967 he was awarded the Theater of Peace Prize for his participation in the play This Summer This Season by F. Gilroy. He was invited to appear on TV and became a television star thanks to his participation in the 1963-1969 serials - The Naked City, The Defenders.
He made his film debut in 1967. For his performance as Joe Buck (Midnight Cowboy (1969)) he received several awards at once: New York Film Critics, Golden Globe and British Film Academy (BAFTA), awarded to him as the most promising debutant. For the creation of the image of Luc Martin in the film "Homecoming" (1978), the actor received awards: "Oscar", New York film critics, "Golden Globe" and the festival in Cannes.
