Raised in a British and Australian family. He moved to London with his family at the age of 2. He has a younger sister, Arabella. He became interested in acting as a teenager and eventually moved to New York. In the United States, he completed a two-year conservatory program at the Lee Strasberg Institute of Theater and Film.
Matty's first acting job was on The Good Wife in 2011.
