February 2, 1923 - October 11, 1988 - American actress and television producer.
She was born into an acting family, in connection with which her career as an actress began quite early - at the age of nine. Some of the first films with her participation were "Cavalcade" (1933) and "Little Women" (1933), and three years later she starred in the film "These Three", for her role in which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress supporting role.
In 1938, Bonita Grenville played Nancy Drew in the film Nancy Drew - Detective. The film became very successful, and later the actress performed this role in three more films. In the 1940s, Grenville continued to act actively, appearing in the films Forward, Traveler (1942) and Children of Hitler (1943), and by the end of the decade her career began to decline. In 1942, Bonita Grenville became the main character in the novel Bonita Grenville and the Mystery of the Star Island, written by Katherine Heissenfelt. The book was intended for a teenage audience, and the main character was very reminiscent of her character Nancy Drew. The novel became popular with the audience, and until 1947 several more books from this series were published. In 1947, the actress married Jack Reiter, who was the producer of some of her films. In 1954, Grenville, with the decline of her film career, acted as a producer on the television series Lassie. In this series, which ran until 1974, the actress starred in several episodes and acted as a narrator in some episodes. Her last film work was a cameo role in the film "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" in 1981.
Jack Reiter died in 1984. Bonita Grenville died on October 11, 1988 in Santa Monica at the age of 65, from lung cancer. Buried with her husband in the cemetery of the Holy Cross. For her contribution to the film industry, Bonita Grenville was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
