November 2, 1892 - October 28, 1939 - American actress who began her career in silent films, and later continued in sound. She was interested in acting from childhood and thanks to her father, William Brady, who was a theater producer, in 1911, at the age of 18, she began to get her first roles on Broadway. In 1913, her father started producing films and soon Brady got her first role in silent films and over the next 10 years starred in 53 films, the production of which was concentrated in New York at that time. In 1923, she left filming for 10 years. In 1933 she signed with MGM and moved to Hollywood, where she starred in her first sound film, When Ladies Meet. In the next 7 years, until her death, she continued to act in films, appearing during this time in 25 films. In 1937, she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for My Servant Godfrey, and a year later she won this award for her role as Mrs. Molly O'Leary in Old Chicago. At an Oscar gala dinner, the record Brady won was stolen. From 1919 to 1922, Brady was married to actor James Crane, whose marriage ended in divorce. Alice Brady died of cancer on October 28, 1939, five days before her 47th birthday. She is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
