Born December 13, 1953 in Augusta, Georgia is an American Jewish actor and economist.

As a child, Bernanke showed versatile and extraordinary abilities. He improved his knowledge of mathematics by studying baseball statistics. His mother recalls that even when he was a small child, he had a mathematical talent. When he was eleven, he won the state's spelling competition. In high school, he was the editor of the school newspaper and as a distinguished student, he gave the closing speech at the school prom. In addition, he independently studied higher mathematics and showed the best result in the state on the SAT exam (he received 1590 points). South Carolina has named him one of their very best saxophonists. It is also known that Bernanke tried himself as a writer and worked on a novel.

Bernanke entered Harvard University, although at first his parents did not want him to study there. They feared that he would be carried away by student protests and lose touch with Judaism. His parents wanted Bernanke to study closer to home, at a university in South Carolina. However, Harvard professor Kenneth Manning convinced Ben's parents that he needed to study at Harvard, where he entered.

At Harvard, Bernanke was an excellent, diligent student. He received his BA in economics with honors (summa cum laude) in 1975. At first he decided to study economics, but then changed his mind and began to study English and mathematics. His friends say his interest in the English language shows his love for the language. This is said to be an unusual trait for an economist, and when Bernanke became chairman of the Federal Reserve System, people noticed that unlike previous presidents, Bernanke was able to articulate the plans and policies of the Federal Reserve System.

In 1979, Bernanke received his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In graduate school, Bernanke studied monetary economics. Thesis topic is "Long-term Commitments, Dynamic Optimization, and the Business Cycle". Bernanke's scientific advisor was Stanley Fischer.

After completing his doctorate, Bernanke taught at Stanford University from 1979 to 1985. From 1985 to 2002, Bernanke taught at Princeton University, and from 1996 to 2002 he was Head of the Department of Economics at Princeton.

In 2002, Bernanke became a member of the Board of Governors of the US Federal Reserve System (FRS). On the Board of Governors, Bernanke worked closely with Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan.

2005-2006 Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

In 2006, President George W. Bush offered Bernanke the chairmanship of the Fed. In the US Senate, Bush's choice was approved almost unanimously (only one vote was cast against the appointment). On February 1, 2006, Bernanke became chairman of the Fed.

On August 25, 2009, US President Barack Obama proposed the appointment of Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Fed for a second term. On January 28, 2010, the US Senate approved Bernanke as chairman of the Fed by a majority of 70 to 30.

His term of office expired in January 2014, and he himself has repeatedly stated that he is not going to remain for a third term.

In April 2015, he became an advisor to financial companies Citadel and Pimco.

In October 2015 he published his memoir “The Courage to Act: A Memoir of a Crisis and Its Aftermath”.
