Born in 1972, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA is an American screenwriter, actor, and film and television producer.
Singer attended Upper Dublin High School in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, where he appeared in musicals and was a member of the math club, theater club, video club, and choir. In high school, he was appointed class treasurer, wrote for the school newspaper and played on the school baseball team. Singer has received numerous awards, including the Upper Dublin Medal, Science Project Competition and Literary Awards, and was co-winner of the school district's highest honor. In his fourth year, he was named an excellent student, a presidential scholar, and a national scholar.
Singer graduated cum laude from Yale University with honors in mathematics and economics. At Yale, he was a member of The Whiffenpoofs and The Yale Alley Cats. Three to four months before going to graduate school, he worked for the Children's Television Workshop and then began doing internships. He did an internship at Nickelodeon in New York and an internship at the Disney Channel in Los Angeles, working for Roy Price at Disney TV Animation for four or five weeks. As a result, he became interested in scripting. He worked as a business analyst for McKinsey & Company before earning his PhD from Harvard Law School and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
After graduating from Harvard, Singer was hired by showrunner John Wells to write the screenplays for The West Wing.
In 2012, Singer wrote the script for The Fifth Estate. In 2015, he co-wrote In the Spotlight, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
