Born June 14, 1949 - British actor.
In 1968 he moved to London, where he tried to enroll in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Central School of Speech and Drama, but failed in admissions. Instead, he attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts from 1969 to 1971. In 1982, Shera was admitted to the Royal Shakespeare Company. In this troupe in 1984 he plays the title role in "Richard III" by W. Shakespeare, for this role he received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. He also appears as the Jester in King Lear, in the title role in Tartuffe, as Malvolio in Twelfth Night and many other productions. He won his second Olivier Prize in 1997 for his role as Stanley Spencer in the drama Stanley at the National Theater.
In 2001, Cher played the role of Gustav Mahler in The Conversion of Mahler, which tells about Mahler's renunciation of his faith after being appointed chief conductor of the Vienna Opera. In addition to theatrical work, Cher starred in several films and television series, including Superman 2, The Wind in the Willows, Mrs Brown, and Shakespeare in Love.
