Born 12 August 1939 - English actor and screenwriter.
He attended the Royal School in Canterbury. There he won a scholarship to Merton College, Oxford, where he read history and became president of the Oxford University Drama Society. He then worked as a history lecturer at the University of Edinburgh before taking up professional acting in 1967.
Davis had a regular role as QC Peter Foxxcott on the TV series Kavanagh. He also appeared in the ITV television drama The Uninvited and the 2002 episode of the hit TV series Foyle's War. His most high profile role was as Sio Bibble in the Star Wars prequel trilogy films released in 1999, 2002 and 2005.
He appeared as Polomnius in the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Hamlet, along with David Tennant and Patrick Stewart, and in 2009 appeared in All's Well That Ends Well at the Royal National Theater as King of France. In 2010, he appeared as Balfour in the premiere of Ben Brown's play The Promise, about the Balfour Declaration. In 2012, he appeared in a staged adaptation of Michelle Magorian's Goodnight Mr. Tom, where he played the main character, Thomas Oakley. He returned to the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2014 as Shello in Henry IV, Part 2.
Davis was honored with the Laurence Olivier Award in 1990 (season 1989) for Best Actor in a New Play for Demon Race. He was nominated twice for the Laurence Olivier Theater Award for Best Supporting Actor in Absolutely! (Possibly) ”at the Wyndham Theater in 2003 and again in 2009 for his portrayal of Polonius in the RSC production of Hamlet at the Novello Theater.
