Born July 28, 1945, Marion, Indiana, USA - American painter, screenwriter and producer.
He spent his childhood on a farm in Fairmont, Indiana. Graduated from Ball University. For some time he worked in an advertising agency, and also took part in the creation of Tom Ryan's comics Tumbleweeds. Davis then created his own comic strip called Gnorm Gnat, which was published in the Indian newspaper The Pendleton Times.
In 1978 he began publishing comics about Garfield (the first strip appeared on June 19). The comic quickly gained popularity, at present, Garfield is read by about two hundred million people daily. Jim Davis contributed to the comic-based animated series Garfield & Friends. In 1981 he founded Paws Incorporated.
