Attended high school in the area of ??Rhondda, Cynon, Tuf. After leaving school, he continued his studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Theater, from which he graduated in 2008. Together with him, Kimberly Nixon and Tom Cullen studied there. His mother tongue is Welsh.
Barnard's first notable theater role was the role of Melchior in the London premiere of the musical Spring Awakening, which he performed from February to May 2009. Barnard won the Laurence Olivier Award for his performance.
While attending acting school, he participated in the productions of "The Caucasian Chalk Circle", "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "West Side Story". His theatrical work in Wales also includes the role of Don Lockwood in Singing in the Rain.
In 2011, he played the role of Guy in the film Iron Knight by Jonathan English. In 2012, he played the role of photographer David Bailey in the BBC 4 film We Conquer Manhattan, opposite Karen Gillan. Later in 2012, he starred in the psychological thriller Citadel and starred in the fantasy adventure film Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box opposite Michael Sheen, Ioan Griffith and Keely Howes.
In the 2013 BBC historical television series The White Queen, he portrayed Richard Gloucester, later King Richard III. In the same 2013, he played the main male role in Andy de Emmoni's television movie Moonfleet, the film adaptation of the historical adventure novel of the same name by John Mead Faulkner (1898). In 2014, Barnard starred in the three-part ITV film "Silla" about the life of British singer Silla Black. Sheridan Smith played the role of Cilla, while Barnard played her husband Bobby Willis.
In 2015, Brian Helgeland's gangster thriller The Legend of the Cray twins will be released, where Anairin Barnard will reprise her role as David Bailey.
