Born June 22, 1937, London is an American music producer, actor and prominent figure in the music industry.
At the age of 10 he was sent to London to study. In 1955 he returned back to Jamaica. He has worked in a variety of jobs including real estate sales and scooter rentals, and also worked as an assistant to the Governor of Jamaica. One day he heard the jazz band of the blind pianist Lance Hayward and decided to record it, and so, having invested $ 1000 in the business, he founded his own label Island Records. Hayward's jazz album became the first release of the new label. In 1960, Blackwell began releasing recordings of Jamaican popular music and soon had a hit number 1 in Jamaica - the song "Little Sheila" performed by Lauren Aitken. In 1962 he moved to London and opened an office there. There, the label achieved success in its niche market - Jamaican music.
