David Johansen is an American rock, punk, pop and blues singer, songwriter, and actor. He became famous, first of all, as a member of the New York Dolls. David was born in January 1950 in Richmond (Staten Island), New York, in the family of an insurance representative and a librarian.
Johansen began his musical career in the late 60s as the lead singer of the Vagabond Missionaries. In the early 70s, he became a member of the New York Dolls. In 1973, the New York Dolls album of the same name was released, in 1974 - the album Too Much Too Soon. The group was well received, but not commercially viable.
In 1977 David embarks on a solo career. The first two albums, David Johansen and In Style, did not bring the desired results. In the late 1980s, the singer finally achieved minor commercial success under the pseudonym Buster Poindexter. The song Hot Hot Hot became the first hit in her career. In 2004, together with Sylvain Sylvain and Arthur Kane, they recreated the New York Dolls, two years later the world saw the long-awaited disc One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This.
First David Johansen film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? was released in 1967. Played a grocery messenger. Over the next years, he appears on screens rarely, participates in several films. Appears in the hit TV series The Adventures of Pete and Pete in the episode On Golden Pete, in which he plays a park ranger. David Johansen never got the leading roles.
