Alejandro Jodorovsky - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor, Writer, Director, Producer, Design, Composer.

Born February 17, 1929, Tokopilia, Chile - actor, screenwriter, director, producer, mime, writer, comic book writer and psychotherapist.

In the late 40s and early 50s, he participated in a movement that brought together young Chilean talent. Along with Jodorowski, it included Jose Donoso, Enrique Lin, Jorge Edwards. At the same time, he organized a mime theater at the Experimental Theater of the University of Chile.

At the age of 23, Alejandro Jodorowski leaves Chile. In 1962, together with Fernando Arrabal and Roland Ax, he founded the post-surrealist movement "Panic" (the name comes from the name of the ancient Greek god Pan). With its three principles, it proclaimed horror, humor and simultaneity.

Jodorowski began his career as a director in Mexico, with the 1967 film Fando and Liz based on Arrabal's play of the same name. The screening of the picture at the Acapulco festival provoked riots, the director had to flee from him, fleeing the angry spectators.

Jodorowski's second film, the surreal western Mole, was filmed in 1970. The Mole brought Jodorowski worldwide fame. Allen Klein, producer of John Lennon, offered to fund the director's next project, The Sacred Mountain, filmed in 1973.

After that, he did not shoot anything for a long time. After moving to Paris, Jodorowski works in the troupe of Marcel Marceau.

For more than five years he has been preparing his largest project - the adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel "Dune". Jodorowski invites to participate in the film by Orson Welles and Salvador Dali. The French artist Jean "Mobius" Giraud is working on the decoration, Hans Rudolph Giger on the scenery, and Pink Floyd and Magma on the music. However, due to the constant postponement of the start of filming and the "not enough Hollywood" concept (according to the director), the producers abandoned the project. Jodorowski said that he wanted to take only the outline of the novel and significantly change a lot. Later, Herbert said: “Alejandro and I got along well, but I saw that he was just not going to shoot anything. He wrote the script that would make a 12-hour film. " Since the cancellation of this work, some ideas and visual concepts have been used in the filming of Episode IV of Star Wars and Alien. The writer joked about the first: "I think Lucas owes me at least dinner." More than 3000 drawings left from him formed the basis of the comic "El Incal". In 2013, an American full-length documentary was filmed about this attempt at film adaptation, Jodorowski's Dune.

In 1980, Jodorowski made the film Tusk in India.

In 1989, after a long hiatus, he returned to film work and directed the film Holy Blood in Mexico. He worked on the script for him for 6 years. In 1990, for the sake of earning money, he directed the commercial film The Rainbow Thief, which is considered a failure. It stars Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif.

In 2000, Jodorowski received the Jack Smith Award for Contribution to Cinematography at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. At the festival, which the director attended, his films "The Mole" and "The Sacred Mountain" were shown, but until the last moment it was not clear whether the authorities would allow the screening of films with an unclear legal status. Due to a conflict with Allen Klein, who owns the rights to these films, they were not officially released. However, in 2005, the differences were settled and the preparation of these films was announced for release on DVD.

In 2007, the Belgian theater "Poin Zero" staged the play "School of Ventrilocks" written especially for him by Jodorowski, which was scandalous, like all of Jodorowski's work, success in Europe.

Has dual citizenship - Chile and France.
