Descendant of Italian immigrants. He worked on television. He made his debut as a director with the short film Zoo and Cemetery (1978). Then he settled in the Netherlands. After the success of the film, Valentine (2002) received an invitation to Hollywood, where he shot the films The Lake House and We Are Not Animals (Diktablanda).
