He received his law degree at the University of Valencia, then moved to the United States, where he studied at Boston and Harvard Universities with a degree in Broadcasting Management. In 1989 he headed the film show service of the Spanish branch of Canal +, and in 1994 he returned to the United States, where he became director of the development and international distribution department of the production company New Regency.
In 1996, Bovaira was appointed CEO of Sogecine, which led the corporation to work closely with the most influential directors in Spain - including Alejandro Amenabar, Julio Medem, Vicente Aranda, Jose Luis Cerda, Fernando Leon de Aranoa, Alex Fesser and de la Iglesia.
In 2007, he founded his own independent film production company MOD Producciones, on the basis of which the films Agora (directed by Alejandro Amenabar), Gloating (El mal ajeno; directed by Oscar Santos) and Beautiful (directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu) ) .
Other production work for Bovaira includes Julio Medem's films Lovers of the Arctic Circle and Lucia and Sex, Alejandro Amenabar's The Sea Within, The Others and Open Your Eyes, as well as a remake of the latter's Vanilla Sky directed by Cameron Crowe.
