She is the only child of former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufey, and former Las Vegas dancer Maureen Kelly. According to Minka herself, her childhood was 'pretty tough'. She was indignant when her father abandoned her and her mother. But still, by the age of seventeen, Kelly tried to make peace with Rick.
Her grandfather is actor Richard Ney, ex-husband of Oscar-winning actress Greer Garson. Minka is of Irish, New Zealand and French descent.
In 2012, she starred in the video for the song "One More Night" by Maroon 5 .
The actress dated baseball player Derek Jiter. Their romance lasted from May 2008 to August 2011.
Since August 2012, she met with American actor Chris Evans, with whom she had a short affair in 2007. As of October 2013, the couple broke up again.
