Cornelia is the daughter of the engineer and sound engineer Gerhard Froboss and the niece of stuntman and high diving champion Harry Froboss.
In 1943, Gerhard Froboss sent his pregnant wife Margarita from Berlin to Friesen, away from the bombing. There in the same year their daughter Cornelia was born. Cornelia's childhood was spent in Berlin in the Wedding district on Gottschalkstrasse, which entered the French zone of occupation. After the war, Gerhard Froboss first worked as a sound engineer for DEFA (in the Soviet zone of occupation), and then went into the music publishing business - he worked for the music publishing house Froboss and Buddha “Melodie”. As a composer, he had his first hits then. In February 1951, the head of the dance orchestra of the West Berlin radio station RIAS Werner Muller was looking for a performer for his future winter hit "An der Ecke steht ein Schneemann" ("There is a snowman at the corner").
