In 1951 he became a student of the acting department of the Moscow Art Theater School, but studied there for only two years. In 1953 he transferred to the colloquial department of the Central Studio of Circus Art. Upon graduation in 1955, he worked in the system of the Main Directorate of Circus. Then, from 1957 to 1961, he was an actor in the Gypsy theater "Romen".
