Frank Dillane spent part of his childhood in Brixton before moving to Forest Row, East Sussex, where he grew up in a creative environment: his mother (Naomi Wirtner) runs a theater group called the Barebones Project, while his father, Stephen Dillane, played in numerous films and TV series (Game of Thrones, The Tunnel) and was awarded the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor in Television in 2009. Dillane made his film debut as an extra in Welcome to Sarajevo when he was six years old. He became even more famous in 2009 when he was cast as Tom Riddle (the young Voldemort) in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince .
Having passed the exams with excellent marks, Dillane entered the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting. Despite school rules specifying that actors are not allowed to accept professional acting as the length of the course, Dillane was allowed to play James Papadopoulos in the independent film Papadopoulos and Sons (directed by Marcus Markow), as it was filmed during summer break in 2011. ... After being cast, his dad decided to redo his filming schedule to play Harry Papadopoulos (James's father) alongside him. Stephen Dillane stated that this was a rare opportunity "to work with your children after they left home."
