Born May 24, 1949, Lincoln, England, UK - British film, theater and television actor.

Broadbent attended Quaker School in Reading, then College of Art, but soon transferred to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, graduating in 1972.

Broadbent's first theatrical performances were roles at Brent National Theater as assistant to the acclaimed actor Patrick Barlow, where Broadbent appeared in character roles for men and women. Later he worked at the Royal National Theater and the Royal Court Theater.

Broadbent made his film debut in The Scream (1978) directed by Jerzy Skolimowski. Then the actor played small roles with director Stephen Frears in The Hit (1984) and Terry Gilliam in Time Bandits (1981) and Brazil (1985). In addition, Broadbent has starred on television, for example, in the television series Black Viper (1983) with the famous comedian Rowan Atkinson, sitcoms and comedy shows.

The first major success was the role in the film "The Sweets of Life" (1990) directed by Mike Lee, with whom the actor was well acquainted from his joint work in the theatrical plays "Goosebumps" and "Ecstasy". In 1999, he played the lead role in the film "Trouble" with the same director. For this role, Broadbent was named Best Actor at the 1999 Venice Film Festival, receiving the Volpi Cup.

In 2001, Broadbent appeared in three successful films at once: "Bridget Jones's Diary" as Bridget's father, "Moulin Rouge!" as cabaret owner Harold Ziedler, which earned him a BAFTA and Iris as a selfless spouse. During his creative career, he has appeared in historical films such as Eric Viking (1989), Witchcraft April (1992), Princess Karabou (1994), Richard III (1995), Churchill (2002), "Young Victoria" (2009) and others. Broadbent has starred in such popular films among young people as: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (in the last two films, he plays Horace Slughorn).
