Born September 17, 1979, Johannesburg, South Africa - South African and Canadian director, screenwriter, producer, editor and 3D animator.

In his youth he was fond of computer animation.

At the age of 16 he starts working as an animator for Sharlto Copley's Deadtime company. By the end of the nineties he moved to Canada. There he graduated from the Vancouver School of Computer Graphics and Special Effects. Neil is also friends with Michael Bey.

Peter Jackson, as the producer of Halo, based on the game of the same name, offered the director position to Neil Blomkamp after Guillermo Del Toro left the project. Neil did a lot of preparatory work, but despite this, production of the film was suspended. Jackson offered Blomkamp $ 30 million in compensation to film his own project. It turned out to be "District 9", a full-length version of "Survive in Joburg". Blomkamp created the script for the film in collaboration with his wife Terry Tatchell.

In early 2015, it became known that Neil will direct the film Alien 5 (from the series of films about Alien. The film will take place between the films Aliens and Alien 3. The film will star Sigourney Weaver and Michael Bean, and produced by Ridley Scott. At first, the director refused the film, but in January 2015, Blomkamp posted on his Instagram page the concept art of a new film in which Ellen Ripley was shown in the costume of "Space Jockey." The director later hinted that may even shoot not just one Alien, but several films.

In March 2015, it was reported that Blomkamp, ??together with Simon Kienberg, would produce the science fiction film Leviathan, which will be directed by Ruari Robinson.

In 2017, Neil produced a number of short films at his own film studio, Oats Studios: Rakka, Firebase, God: Serengeti, Zygote, Kapture: Fluke.
