Born in the city of Grumo Apulla (in Puglia), after moving to Rome he worked in the theater. Roubini played his first role in cinema in 1985, and the following year he took part in the filming of the television drama Casa di bambola. In 1987, Roubini played the role of reporter in Federico Fellini's Interview. In 1989, Rubini made his directorial debut with La stazione, which won the David di Donatello and FIPRESCI awards. In 1992, he starred in his film La Bionda with Nastassja Kinski.
