Born September 22, 1941, Salamanca, Castile and Leon, Spain - Spanish screenwriter, director, producer and actor.
Graduated in Law and Sociology from the University of Madrid.
Having made several short films according to his own scripts, in 1973 he made his debut with the full-length film "Cruel Love".
In 1978 he won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale for the film Dodgers. In the 1980s, he wrote scripts in collaboration with Rafael Ascona. Their first collaborative project was The Pharaoh's Retinue (1985), which won the Silver Shell Prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The adaptation of Valle-Inclana's Tyrant Banderas earned Garcia Sanchez the Goya Award for Best Screenplay.
