Born June 17, 1950, Wellington, New Zealand is a New Zealand film director and actor.

He graduated from Massey High School and began his career as an advertising artist and photographer. In the second half of the 1970s, he worked as a cameraman on the state television of New Zealand, and in the 1980s - mainly as assistant filmmakers (for example, in Nagisa Oshima's film "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence"). In 1986 he became one of the founders and directors of the production company Flying Fish, specializing in the production of commercials.

His first and most successful directorial work was the drama Once They Were Warriors (1994), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The first movie in Hollywood - "Rock Mulholland" (1996): about a task force of police officers brutally exterminating crime in Los Angeles in the 1950s. A detective thriller starring Morgan Freeman "And the Spider Came" was released in (2001). In the year of the 40th anniversary of the James Bond film, the picture Die, But Not Now (2002) was released.

In the summer of 2011, the film The Devil's Double was released on the cinema screens, based on the memoirs of Latif Yahia and telling the story of an Iraqi who decided to become a double of Saddam Hussein's eldest son.
