Karl Urban is a New Zealand, Australian and American actor who is best known for his work in films such as Star Trek, The Bourne Supremacy, The Chronicles of Riddick.
Karl-Heinz Urban was born on June 7, 1972 in Wellington, New Zealand, to a German emigre, leather goods owner and cinema worker. Thanks to his mother, Karl became acquainted with the classics of world cinema at a very young age. Urban attended a Catholic school, where he first appeared on stage. His first job in the film industry at the age of eight was in the New Zealand TV series Pioneer Woman.
Karl attended Wellington College and then Queen Victoria University, but after a year he left to start his acting career. Over the next several years, he appeared in television commercials and also played in local theater. He eventually moved to Oakland, where he was offered many roles in television shows.
On the big screen, Urban made his debut in 1992 in the war drama Chanak Bair Cemetery. It was followed by work in such tapes as Divination, Demons, The Price of Milk, Ghost Ship, Pathfinder, Black Water Transit, RED, And Darkness Comes, Shepherd, Loft. Urban enjoys climbing, horse riding, fishing, surfing, golf and gardening. Karl has a black Boston terrier named Airy, named after one of Bob Marley's songs.
Urban has been married to makeup artist Natalie Vionji for ten years, the couple have two sons in common - Hunter and Indiana, who was named after the movie hero of the same name, but in June 2014 they announced a divorce.
