Born June 30, 1956, Chicago Heights, Illinois is an American film director, producer, actor, and screenwriter.

He attended La Lumiere School, a boarding school in La Porte, Indiana. Barclay then went to Harvard College where he was very active in musicals and in the a cappella singing group The Harvard Krokodiloes. During his four years there, he wrote 16 musicals, including music for two annual Hasty Pudding shows. He went to school at La Lumiere and Harvard with John Roberts, now Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. His roommate at Harvard was Arthur Golden, author of Memoirs of a Geisha.

Paris began her successful television career with an episode of Angel Street. He was hired by John Wells, who made his debut as an executive producer.

Barclay directed Sean and Marlon Wayans' first feature film, Don't Menace South Central While Sipping Your Juice in Your Block (1996), with Keenen Ivory Wayans, Vivica A. Fox and Bernie Mac. Although the film received mixed reviews, it had a successful box office and has become a cult icon since its release. Barclay also directed an HBO film, Cherokee, a western tragicomedy starring Sinbad, James Coburn, Burt Reynolds, Gregory Hines and Amy Martinez.

After directing episodes of Ambulance, Paris directed and eventually produced NYPD. Three years later, Barclay received two Emmy Awards for Best Director - the second of which is called Hearts and Souls - including the death of Jimmy Smits' character Bobby Simon. The episode was rated in the "100 Best Episodes of All Time" in the TV Guide. Barclay has since reunited with the Smits as Nero Padilla in Sons of Anarchy.

In 2000, Barclay teamed up with fellow NYPD producers Steven Bochko and Nicholas Wootton to create City Angels, a medical drama with a predominantly African American cast including Blair Underwood, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer , Maya Rudolph and Vivic Fox. The show aired on CBS and won two NAACP awards.

In 2002, he returned to John Wells to produce and direct the pilot episode, Big Success, starring Christina Hendrix, Dylan Baker, Molly Ringwald and Christopher Lloyd - which eventually aired as a two-hour film ... In the years that followed, Barclay worked in various television dramas and comedies. He served as a co-executive producer and director of Detective Rush, for which he also directed nine episodes.

2008 highlighted Barclay's return to HBO, where he executive produced three seasons of Patients, as well as directed 36 episodes.

In 2011, Barclay served as Executive Producer and Principal Director of the fourth season of FX's Sons of Anarchy.

Also in 2013, Barclay directed two episodes of "Chorus", "Diva" and "Lights Out". For his work on Diva, Barclay was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Director of a Comedy Series, his second Emmy nomination for Choir. During this time, Barclay directed an episode of The New Normal and the penultimate episode of ABC's Last Hope.

In 2014, Barclay directed the premiere and penultimate episodes of Sons of Anarchy for four years in a row. In addition to his duties on Sons of Anarchy, Barclay also directed the milestone episode 100 for Choir, for which he received another Emmy nomination, in addition to The Good Wife and Beyond, with executive producer Steven Spielberg and starring Halle Berry, and "Manhattan," the Tommy Schlamme / Sam Shaw historical drama for WGN America.

In 2015, Paris will executive produce / direct FX's highly anticipated new show, The Bastard Executioner.
