John began his interest in cinematography at an early age, and seriously considered a directing career while serving in the Air Force. He soon made his first documentary. Then he began to study the theory of cinema, in particular, the work of Sergei Eisenstein.
Frankenheimer began his directing career on CBS. During the 1950s, he directed more than 140 episodes of the TV series Theater 90 (Playhouse 90), Climax!, Danger (TV series), and others. less, and from 1961 he was engaged exclusively in full-length feature films.
