Born 1971, Cleveland, Ohio is an American film director, actor, screenwriter and producer.

The Russo family lived in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, where Joe graduated from the Benedictine School. After that, he and his brother went to study the basics of the film profession at Case Western Reserve University. While still students, in 1997, the young directors finished work on their first film, Pieces. The debut comedy tape had a duration of just over an hour, and the brothers acted in several guises at once: directors, screenwriters, producers and editors, in addition, Joe played one of the roles with Wendy James, Jonathan Rea and Harry Addleman. The project was funded with credit cards. The first tape interested professional critics at various film festivals, and during one of the screenings, Stephen Soderberg revealed his sympathy for the creation of novice directors, promising young talents to be the producer of their next tape.

In 2001, the Russo brothers released a short comedy "The Kiss", created by them according to their own script, and then continued working on their next feature film, which was released a year later. The premiere of the crime comedy "Welcome to Collinwood" took place on May 24, 2002, both directed and written by Joe and his brother Anthony, and, as promised, Stephen Soderbergh, along with George Clooney, became the producer of the tape. Joe also became a performer of one of the roles, and with him on the set worked William H. Macy, Louis Guzman, Michael Jeter, Sam Rockwell and many other actors. The film was so liked by the executive producer of the television channel "FX", Kevin Riley, that he immediately invited the talented brothers to shoot a pilot episode of his project - the series "Lucky". And the first episode of the future tape, in turn, interested the producer and director Ron Howard, who persuaded Russo to shoot several episodes for the new Fox comedy series Arrested Development, for which a little later Joe and Anthony Russo received an Emmy award ...

Also during his creative career, Joe managed to work as a producer and director of such television projects as "Veterinary Clinic", "Car enthusiasts", "What about Brian", "Classmates", "Happy Ending", "All Night Long", "The Taming Wilde ”and many others.

In 2006, Joe returned to film work, and his next work was the comedy "He, Me and His Friends", which he directed in tandem with his brother, Anthony, and written by Michael LeCierre. The main characters of this film are Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon and Michael Douglas. The comedy received good reviews from viewers and earned $ 140 million at the box office.

A few years later, the Russo brothers were invited to direct the sequel to the first part of the superhero saga "The First Avenger", released in 2011. Captain America: The Other War hit wide screens on March 13, 2014. The film stars Chris Evans, Robert Redford, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson and many others. It is now known that Russo will work on the sequel to the film, Captain America: Civil War, which is expected to be completed by May 2016; it is also known that Robert Downey Jr. will star in one of the main roles.

After that, Joe Russo worked on the series "Agent Cartner", acting as director of several episodes and on the film "It's a Fucking Christmas Miracle" starring Robin Williams and Joel McHale, where he co-produced the tape.
