May 31, 1929 - August 8, 2014 - Israeli producer, director, screenwriter and actor.

Changed his last name to Golan while attending an Israeli Air Force course. During the War of Independence, he fought in the Jordan Valley and for the liberation of the city of Tiberias. After the war, Golan went to study theater in London, graduated with honors from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) and continued his studies at the famous Old-Vic school.

When he returned to Israel three years later, he was recruited as an assistant director at the Habima Theater. He directed plays by Petri Frey, Ephraim Kishon and Yigal Mosinzon, theatrical performances at the Matate Theater, and also founded the Ashidra Theater, where they staged the successful production of Aliza Mizrahi. He also founded a theater for children called Tilon.

In 1960, he went to study film at New York University and joined a group that worked with producer and director Roger Corman.

In 1963 he returned to Israel and directed his first film, Eldorado, with Haim Topol and Gila Almagor. The film won the Kinor David award. In 1964 he directed the film Dalya and the Sailors and began collaborating with his cousin Yoram Globus. Together they founded the film company Sirtei Noach (named after Golan's father). In the 1960s and 70s, they produced dozens of films, some of which became favorites in Israeli cinema. The film "Operation Yonathan" became known all over the world and was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

In 1978, Golan and Globus moved to Hollywood and bought a small company called the Cannon Group. In 1980, the company released a science fiction film called Apple. This film is often mentioned in the list of the worst films in history. After several setbacks, they eventually earned the title of Hollywood Producer.

They eventually sold Canon and ended the joint venture. Menachem Golan founded his own company, Films of the 21st Century, where he created films, in particular Captain America (1990). After the closure of the Company, he again began to work with Globus.

In the late 1980s, Golan and Globus founded a cinema chain in Israel.
