The band was founded in 1995 by vocalist and guitarist Christoph von Freidorf, drummer Stefan Finauer (with the band until 2003) and bassist Jamie Richardson in Sheftlarn, Bavaria, near Munich. The band's name, Emil Bulls, comes from the children's film of the same name. The group was soon joined by guitarists Stefan Karl and Franz Wickenhauser (with the group until 1999).
