He began his career in the 2000s as a screenwriter. His debut film was the adventure comedy Road Adventure, in which he co-wrote the script with director Todd Phillips. This tape was the start on the road to a long and strong friendship and creative collaboration with Phillips. Already in 2003, Armstrong was a screenwriter in his new tape - the comedy "Old School", and a little later he wrote scripts for his comedies "Starsky and Hutch" (2004) and "School for Scoundrels" (starring Billy Bob Thornton).

In 2007, another comedy, The Girl of My Nightmares, was released, directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelli, in which Armstrong co-wrote and starred Ben Stiller and Malin Ackerman. In 2008, he wrote the screenplay for the sports comedy film Semi-Professional by Kent Alterman, where he also performed one of the roles.

In 2009, Scott Armstrong continued his creative career as a screenwriter with Steve Rash's Road Adventure 2, and during the same period renewed his collaboration with Todd Phillips and joined the writing team for his new film The Hangover 2: From Vegas to Bangkok.

Early in the second decade of the 2000s, Armstrong became involved in producing, among the projects in which he acted as an executive producer were the television film "Off Duty" by Adam Bernstein, Spencer Sasser's drama "Hesher", as well as the sitcom Friends Forever "Veterinary Clinic" (in which he worked on 6 episodes each).

In December 2014, the premiere of Armstrong's debut film as director - the comedy "Naked Peppers", in which he also co-wrote and co-produced, took place. The film is another "torn off" story about the adventures of a bachelor party and its unexpected consequences. American actors TJ Miller, Adam Pally and Canadian Thomas Middleditch were invited to the main roles.
