Born January 12, 1949, Hong Kong is an American film director, producer, screenwriter and editor.
When he was 17, he moved to the United States to attend medical school, but later changed his mind and went to study film and television at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. His first films, Cheng Disappeared (1982) and Dim Sum: A Light Heartbeat (1985) made him a reputation. He has also directed the more famous films Mistress Maid, Smoke, Anywhere But Here and The Last Vacation.
In September 2007, he won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival for his film A Thousand Years of Good Prayer.
