Born in 1946, England, UK - British-Australian film director, screenwriter, actor and film producer.

For some time he lived in Libya, where his father served. He shot his first 2-minute film at the age of 15 on 8-mm film. He studied at Wellington College, during his studies on assignment made a film about him. After his studies, he worked as an assistant cameraman and assistant editor in the UK branch of a French news channel. Then he moved to Australia, his father's homeland. He worked there for Channel Ten and Channel 9. In 1968, Brian returned to London, where he created trailers for feature films for the National Screen Service. In 1970 he returned to Australia on Channel 9, where he worked on documentaries.

In 1973, at the height of the kung fu fashion, Brian Trenchard-Smith went to Hong Kong to make a documentary about Bruce Lee. Lee unexpectedly died, just on the day Trenchard-Smith arrived. Nevertheless, the work on the film did not roll out. While working on it, Trenchard-Smith met film producer Raymond Chow, who helped Brian with the production of his first feature film, The Man from Hong Kong (1975). With this film, Brian Trenchard-Smith established himself in the world as a filmmaker. His first film features Jimmy Wang and 007 Agent George Lazenby.

In the following years he made horror and action films. Usually his films were criticized by the film community. Although some of them eventually became cult, such as "Hunt for Turkey" (1982) or "Bicycle Bandits" (1983), which made Nicole Kidman popular. Brian Trenchard-Smith is Quentin Tarantino's favorite Australian director. When Tarantino came to Australia to present the first part of his film "Kill Bill", he dedicated it to Trenchard-Smith, which puzzled the Australian film community, since Trenchard-Smith is considered a director of low-quality films.
