Born November 1, 1958, Jamaica is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor.
He is best known for the sequel to the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise with The Nightmare on Elm Street 5: Sleep Child, and for the sequel to the Predator franchise with Predator 2. His highest-grossing film was the 1998 film adaptation of the television series Lost in Space.
In 2004, Hopkins directed the controversial film The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, which infuriated the actor's son, Michael Sellers, and won an Emmy Award for Best Director of a Miniseries, Film or Drama Program.
Hopkins also co-produced the first season of Fox's 24 Hours, and directed half of the episodes of the first season, including the pilot and the final episode.
Hopkins directed numerous episodes of the Showtime TV series "Resident of Lies," starring Don Cheadle, which premiered on January 8, 2012, and was renewed for a third season. He is also the producer of the series.
Hopkins directed Willpower, a biopic about athlete Jesse Owens for Focus Features. Stefan James plays Jesse Owens, alongside Jason Sudeikis and Jeremy Irons. The film was released in February 2016.
