Peter Hyams - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Director, Operator, Writer, Producer, Actor.

Born July 6, 1943, New York is an American film director, cameraman, screenwriter and producer.

Studied Fine Arts and Music at New York Hunter College and Syracuse University. After graduating at the age of 21, he worked as a presenter on Chicago television. From 1964 he worked for six years at the CBS studio, where he became interested in shooting documentaries. He soon gave up journalism and devoted himself entirely to photography. In 1970, Hyams moved with his wife and two children to Los Angeles, where he wrote and sold his first screenplay, TR Baskin, to Paramount Pictures.

In 1978, his first serious film work was the detective thriller Capricorn One, which tells the story of NASA's falsified landing of American astronauts on Mars. The film is popular with fans of science fiction and is nominated for four Saturn Film Awards.

In the next few years, three of his new films will start at once. In 1979, Hyams directed the war drama Hanover Street, starring Harrison Ford. 1981 saw the release of Alien Land with Sean Connery and Star Chamber with Michael Douglas in 1983.

In 1983, Hyams is producing, directing, cinematography and screenwriter in the sequel to Stanley Kubrick's cult masterpiece A Space Odyssey 2001. Before concluding a contract, Peter requires two conditions to be accepted: first, Stanley Kubrick must approve the sequel, and secondly, the plot of the future film will have to be changed. With permission, Hyams invites Arthur Clarke, a consultant for the first part and author of the series "A Space Odyssey". With the help of Clark, he is writing the script for the upcoming film "A Space Odyssey 2010".

The filming period lasts nine months. Hyams works seven days a week, twenty hours a day. As a result, the sequel is weaker than the original, but, nevertheless, it still raises the box office, is nominated for five Oscars and brings Hyams worldwide fame.

Since 1986-1995, Hyams has shot mainly action films such as Run Without Looking Back (1986), Presidio (1988), The Narrow Edge (1990), Stay With Us (1992), Patrol Time "(1994) and" Sudden Death "(1995). In them, Hyams is already acting as a director-operator.

In 1990, Hyams got the chance to make a remake of the horror film Night of the Living Dead, but he declines, taking up the filming of Narrow Edge.

In 1997, the film "Relic" was released based on the bestseller of the same name by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Here Hyams again acts as a director of photography. The film follows an Indian artifact followed by a series of brutal murders. The film is set in the huge Chicago Museum of Natural History. In the end, the culprit of all deaths turns out to be an unimaginable mutant. The film was not distinguished by originality and the box office was not that great, but it marked the beginning of a new period in the director's career.

Peter's next project was "The End of the World" (1999) with a budget of $ 100 million and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role. According to the plot, on the eve of the new millennium, Satan himself descends on Earth to conceive his unborn child from his chosen earthly woman. He is confronted by a New York policeman who rescues a girl from the clutches of the devil and his servants. Well-known Hollywood director James Cameron proposed the script to Peter Hyams. According to Cameron, Hyams had enough film experience to undertake such a project. At the worldwide box office, "The End of the World" raises about $ 211 million.

2001 The Musketeer is published. According to the plan of Hyams, for the first time in history, musketeers had to fight not only with enemies, but also with gravity, do unimaginable tricks and fence like real samurai. To do this, the director invited Xiong Xinxing, a famous stage director of combat scenes from Asia. The film about the adventures of the characters of Alexandre Dumas with a budget of 40 million dollars, altered in the manner of an action-thriller, did not win the public's respect. Having completely failed at the box office, he was mercilessly scolded by critics. Later in an interview, the director himself admitted that it was a stupid idea.

In 2004, Hyams tries to take over the director's chair in Hellboy, but is rejected in favor of Guillermo Del Toro.

In 2005, a large-scale film adaptation based on the story of science fiction writer Ray Bradbury "And Thunder Rocked" with a budget of $ 80 million was released. Despite the costs, the film is replete with primitive special effects and a lack of famous actors, with the exception of Ben Kingsley, who played a cameo role in it. As a result, the film raises a record low $ 10 million worldwide.

In 2009, a new film by Hyams was released, a remake of the 1956 film Beyond Reasonable Doubt, in which the director is acting as a screenwriter for the first time in a long time. The main roles are played by Michael Douglas and rising American star Amber Tamblyn.
