Born August 24, 1977, Indianapolis, USA is an American writer and author of books for teens, video blogger, producer, screenwriter, director and actor.
Just three weeks after his birth, his family moves to Michigan, then to Birmingham, Alabama and finally Orlando, Florida. John attended Lake Highland Preparatory School and Indian Springs School in the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama, which he later used as the main setting in Finding Alaska. Greene graduated from Kenyon College in 2000 with a dual degree in English literature and religious studies.
After graduating from college, Greene spent five months working as a student chaplain at the Children's Hospital. At the time, he intended to become an Episcopal priest, but working with children suffering from serious illnesses inspired him to become a writer, and subsequently to create the novel The Fault in the Stars.
Green lived in Chicago for several years, where he worked as an assistant editor for Booklist magazine, wrote reviews, and wrote Finding Alaska. During this time, he has written reviews of hundreds of books, especially fiction. He also reviewed books for The New York Times and did original radio essays for the Chicago public radio station. Greene later lived in New York for two years while his wife Sarah was in graduate school.
Greene is the recipient of the prestigious 2006 Printz Award for his debut novel, Finding Alaska, and his best-known novel, The Fault in the Stars, debuted at # 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List in January 2012. The film adaptation of the same name, released in 2014, at the time of its premiere in the United States became the No. 1 box office, grossing $ 124,438,000 for the entire period of its release in the United States. In 2014, Green was included in the list of "100 most influential people in the world" according to Time magazine.
In addition to writing, Green is also known for his work in the field of Internet technology. In 2007, he launched the YouTube channel Vlog Brothers, which he runs with his brother, Hank Green. He also implemented Internet projects such as Amazing and VidCon and created, along with his brother, a total of 11 online series of educational programs, including world history, biology, ecology, chemistry, psychology and other disciplines.
