Slayer was founded in 1981. Place of origin - southern California, Huntington Park. The founders are rightfully called guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King, who united on the basis of passion for hard rock and heavy metal with bass guitarist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo. The musicians preferred all sorts of Satanist symbolism, aggressive style of dress. At the Los Angeles club Woodstock, Brian Slagel was interested in their style of performance. His studio Metal Blade Records was preparing for the release of the album Metal Massacre 3, and Slayer recorded their song Aggressive Perfector for him, which caused a great resonance.

The next stage of the band's creative path is a contract with Metal Blade and the album Show No Mercy. From 1983 to 1984, Slayer was able to introduce it to their first tour in such a way that more than forty thousand copies were sold in America and other countries. The new 1984 album Haunting the Chapel included only four songs, but it was he who determined the style in which Slayer would work (thrash metal), and the composition Chemical Warfare has since been considered the band's calling card. The drummer, who later became a star of rock music, and at that moment just a lighting engineer Gene Hoglan, organically entered the team. For a while, he left for another group of Kerry King.

Metal Blade is funding a new Slayer album in 1985, Hell Awaits, which reinforces the theme of evil and Satan. However, it turns out to be so successful that the collaboration is offered by Def Jam Recordings, a company better known for promoting hip-hop. The recording quality of the upcoming gold album Reign in Blood is much higher, and is still called Slayer's greatest creative achievement. Due to the popularity of Slayer, the group's photo flashes on the pages of American and European music publications. The next album of 1986, South of Heaven, due to the change in the style of performance, caused a wave of criticism, but also went gold. The third gold was the 1990 record Seasons in the Abyss - the Slayer video is being shot on the theme of the same name, which can now be watched online on our website. Highest, The seventh place in the ratings was taken by the 1994 album Divine Intervention with drummer Paul Bostaph. Diabolus in Musica, the 1998 album, survived over forty-six thousand copies.

The surge in concert activity and the greatest popularity of the Slayer group falls on the first decade of the 21st century: for the best performance of heavy metal, their compositions Eyes of the Insane and Final Six were awarded a Grammy in 2007 and 2008. The death of Jeff Hanneman in 2013 is a big blow.
