One of the most mysterious women of the twentieth century, talented and possessed, purposeful and narcissistic, more than once reborn like a phoenix from the ashes of contempt, ignorance, oblivion. Leni Riefenstahl was born in the German capital at the beginning of the last century. Her childhood was spent under the sounds of the piano, studying at the easel and learning dance steps. She successfully toured Europe as a ballet dancer, broke her ankle three times, but only after a serious knee injury did she leave ballet forever.
Her film debut was the role in Arnold Funk's film Sacred Mountain (1926). She performed the main roles of Leni Riefenstahl in The Big Leap (1927), White Hell of Piz-Palu (1929), Storms over Mont Blanc (1930), White Madness (1931). At that time in Germany there were very fashionable films about mountains, in which they served as both a landscape and an entourage. Leni looked at this topic in her own way, bringing magic and an element of fabulousness to her first director's film Blue Light (1932).
The most famous films with Leni Riefenstahl as director are the documentaries Triumph of Will (1935) and Olympia (1938). The Triumph of Will is considered one of the strongest propaganda films (created by order of the National Socialist German Workers' Party, in particular, by A. Hitler himself), and Olympia, a film about the Olympic Games in Berlin, is one of the ten best world film masterpieces.
Leni Riefenstahl paid dearly both for her acquaintance with Hitler and for the work she had done for the Third Reich. At the end of World War II, she no longer worked as a director, constantly being attacked and accused of involvement in the atrocities of the Nazis. The last third of her life was professionally engaged in photography and underwater photography. She died on 09/08/2003.
