Born on March 7 (19), 1899. Actor, screenwriter. In 1918 he entered the Moscow Art Theater Studio, since 1922 - an actor of the First Moscow Art Theater Studio. In 1924-1928 he was an actor at the Moscow Art Theater of the 2nd. Pupil and closest friend of M.A. Chekhov. In 1928, together with Mikhail Chekhov, he left for Berlin. In 1934, after returning to his homeland, according to a letter of recommendation from M.A. Chekhov, he was admitted to the V.E. Meyerhold Theater, where he worked until the theater closed in 1938. After the liquidation of the Meyerhold Theater, he worked as the chief director in the puppet theater of S.V. Obraztsov, was the artistic director of the Theater on Nikolskaya, the last 10 years of his life - a director and performer of roles in the theater of two actors (with A.D. Gromova-Davydova). From 1943 he collaborated with Soyuzmultfilm (consultant director, member of the artistic council). Staged several graphic cartoons on my own. He took part in the revival of volumetric animation at Soyuzmultfilm. He wrote the book "Mikhail Chekhov", published by the publishing house "Art" in 1970 (series "Life in Art"). Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR.
He passed away in 1975.
