Born August 25, 1957 in the family of the American archaeologist Charles McBurney and the British secretary Anne Francis Edmondstone. McBurney studied English Literature at Cambridge. After the death of his father, he went to Paris and studied at the theater at the Jacques Lecoq Institute. McBurney founded the Complicite Theater, which now tours around the world. He co-wrote and produced Mr. Bean's Vacation (2007).
