The leader of the rock group Gogol Bordello, Evgeniy Gudz, was born in 1972 in the city of Boyarka, Ukraine. Received secondary education in the capital at school No. 170. After the tragic events at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, he was evacuated with his relatives to the west of Ukraine. Later, having official refugee status, Hudz visited many European countries, such as Poland, England, Germany, Spain, and in 1991 he moved to the United States, settling in New York. The city he last visited, just before his trip to America, was Rio de Janeiro.
The band's first name was "Hutz and the Bela Bartoks", but the band leader himself claimed that there are hardly any people in the United States who know who Bela Bartok is. The group's first song was released in 1999, and a little later, in the same year, their first album, Voi-La Intruder, was released. In 2005, their new album Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike was released, a characteristic feature of which was its filling with tracks of various directions and styles.
Soon after that, a film with Gogol Bordello was released on the screens, namely, with the leader of the group - Eugene Gudzm, he got one of the key roles in the film And everything was illuminated, which was shot by Lev Schneider based on the novel by Jonathan Foer. And the track "Start Wearing Purple", which was performed by the band Gogol Bordello, became the soundtrack for this tape.
In 2007 the world saw their new album Super Taranta, produced by Victor Van Vogt. In the same year, they were awarded the prestigious BBC World Music Awards. After that, the popular music magazine named their album one of the 50 best in 2007, and their songs were included in the top 100 this year. Another magazine rated their work 4 stars out of 5.
Gogol Bordello worked with the popular singer Madonna. And after some time, a new film with Gogol Bordello called Dirt and Wisdom, in which the singer also starred, was released. They then warmed up the crowd for the Red Hot Chili Peppers' performance, and in 2014 they played at the world famous Rock am Ring music festival in Germany.
