May 13, 1907, London - April 19, 1989, Cornwall - English writer and biographer who wrote in the genre of psychological thriller. The work of the writer is known primarily for such works as the novel "Rebecca" and the story "Birds", filmed by Alfred Hitchcock. Daphne du Maurier has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature since 1952, and in 1977 she was awarded the "American Excellence in Detective Fiction" award. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire. In 1938 she received the US National Book Award.
