Born in Panama City, Panama, to a nurse and a carpenter, her first songs were written by her stepfather Leonard Rubin. Daphne began her musical career with the "Pajama Party" group. As a solo singer, Daphne's first success came in 1996 on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play chart with the song I Found It. Rubig-Vega was nominated twice for a Tony Award: for her role in the music "Rent" for the best actress in a musical, for her role in "Anna in the Tropics" in 2003. Was awarded the Blockbuster Award for the film Wild Things.
