A talented artist Leonid Yengibarov was born in Moscow in the spring of 1935. The actor's father worked as a cook, and his mother was a dressmaker. When Leonid was ten years old, dad left them. Mom tried very hard to save the boy, who was sickly and very thin, from all the cruelties of this world. But after many domestic fights, Yengibarov decided to start boxing. After stubborn 9 years of training in the boxing ring, he managed to take 3rd place during the Moscow Championship. After graduating from school, Leonid entered the Institute of Fish Farm in 1956, and six months later transferred to the Institute of Physical Culture. Then, in 1955, Yengibarov applied to the circus school for the clownery department, having studied here until 1959.

For the first time on stage he managed to perform in November 1956 at the student club. And in 1964, at a prestigious international competition in Prague, he was recognized as the best clown in Europe. At that time Leonid was 29 years old! In 1956, a film was released with Leonid Yengibarov - The Communist, where the actor played the role of a bandit. In 1959 he moved to Yerevan, where he began to work in an Armenian circus, demonstrating new methods in the genre of clownery. His popularity began to increase.

Film studio directors drew attention to him. And in 1964 S. Parajanov creates a new film with Leonid Yengibarov - Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, where the actor starred as Miko. Then there were shooting in the pictures Aibolit 66 (1966) and The Shore of Youth (1969), as well as Pechki - Benches (1972). But all the time he had a dream to create his own theater. And it came true in 1971, when the famous clown Yengibarov, after leaving the circus, creates a new pantomime theater.

The artist repeated, jokingly, that if he is a genius, he will die, like Pushkin, at 37 years old. The death of Leonid Yengibarov overtook July 25, 1972, when he was 37 years old.
