Born on December 3, 1894 in the village of Ozerki, Kursk province.
On stage since 1920.
In 1925 he graduated from the A.V. Lunacharsky and until 1932 was an actor in various amateur houses.
In 1932-1936 he was an actor at the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions Theater.
In 1936-1959 he was an actor at the Central Academic Theater of the Soviet Army.
Although Nikolai Sergeev first appeared in films in 1937, making his debut as the commander of a fascist squadron in the film "Deep Raid", age roles brought him fame. A milestone in this regard for him was the role of the old worker Basmanov in the film by Joseph Kheifets "Big Family" (1954). In this picture, the actor was noticed by Mikhail Schweitzer and allowed him to create a completely opposite image - the stingy peasant Silantiy Ryashkin in "Alien Relatives" (1955). From that moment on, Nikolai Sergeev began to be invited by leading Soviet directors, and soon he left the theater for the sake of cinema.
For more than fifty years, Nikolai Vasilyevich lived in a happy marriage with actress Olga Vasilievna Dolgova, with whom he worked at TsTSA. When Sergeev began to actively act in films and left the theater, she left with him, leaving her profession, and devoted her entire subsequent life to caring for her husband. The spouses did not have children, therefore, when their niece Svetlana appeared in their house at the end of the 50s, they switched all their love and care to her.
People's Artist of the RSFSR (1970).
He passed away on January 8, 1988 in Moscow. He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery (section 26).
